Tips for Helping Students with Home/School work

Parents. . .Do You Have the School/Homework Blues?

Here are some tips that can help:

  • Create a routine or schedule that works best for you and your children

  • Find a quiet environment to work in with minimal distractions

  • Give positive affirmations when needed (This is especially helpful for children who are easily frustrated)

  • Give your child a break (ten minutes or so) when he/she feels overwhelmed or discouraged

  • Know when you need a break. It is not uncommon for parents to feel overwhelmed as well. Take a ten minute break to do something that's calming.

  • Think of a previous instance where your child was able to overcome a challenge and used that to encourage him/her

  • Help your child focus on one assignment at a time

  • Set a good example. Children learn certain behaviors through observation. It's good for children to see parents modeling the behaviors they want them to have.

  • Be unafraid to reach out to teachers or outside support if you need more assistance
